Villagers support the RSPB Great British Birdwatch

The filthy weather last Sunday kept most of the birds out of sight. Sallie from the Meads clocked 12 sparrows and nothing else, but between the heavy showers Chris & Julie from Church Cottage bagged the following:

Great Tit, Blue Tit, Chaffinch, Crow and a Wood Pigeon or two.

Parish Council Vacancy

Di Bell has resigned from the Parish Council after many years of service. The vacancy will be filled by election, and the notice inviting nominations will be issued shortly.

Coming Soon: The Burton Community Association

Do you think we should set up a Burton Community Association
•  To develop community activities and facilities in the village;
•  To act as an advocate for the village on community matters ?

Now is a good time to do it since Wiltshire Council are receiving over £2000 to be spent on developing Public Open Space facilities in Burton, an the Community Association would help to ensure we make the most of this opportunity for our village.

If you share our view that a village community association is is a good idea, please get in touch.

DownloadedFile

In the New Year’s Honours List, our local postmistress has been awarded the British Empire Medal, for services to the community. It is 36 years since she set up her excellent village shop and post office, and she has defied the threat of closure, winning a number of awards over the years. She supports St Mary’s Church and other community activities in Burton.

Snow Clearing Arrangements

Nettleton Parish Council have revised the snow clearing arrangements - click here to download.

Wiltshire Council produced a leaflet last year with useful general guidance - click here to download.

Paper copies of each are available in St Mary’s. Official HSE and Wiltshire Council guidance is that provided you do it reasonably sensibly, you are unlikely to incur any liability by being a good neighbour and clearing snow.
